World Cup Off to Interesting Start….
Highlights of my favorite games from the first four days of the world’s greatest soccer football tournament
Day 1: Germany opened up the 2006 World Cup with an impressing show. Winning over Croatia 4 - 2. Although the score might reflect a close game, Germany fiercely dominated with more than four times the number of shots on goal and an impressive attack.
Day 2:England’s opener could be looked at one of two ways. On one hand the highly anticipated team beat Paraguay 1 – 0. For those of us who have been looking forward to seeing the best English team in 20 years compete on the stage, it was quite the disappointment. Especially when you consider the only goal scored has technically been called as an “own goal”. (in other words the idiot for Paraguay headed the ball into his own goal) The English team of course has been blaming the weather for the unimpressive showing, (a mere 10dregrees warmer then they are used to) but for true fans we can only hope Thursday’s game will bring out the team we know England has.
Day 3:Poland showed that they are not a team to be ignored with a 1-0 victory over Serbia-Montenegro on Sunday. Considered an underdog, the Polish brought an impressive midfield attack, which controlled the ball and proved that the young team is in this to win it.

Day 4:USA, ranked 5th in the world according to FIFA, lost their first game to the Czech Republic (3-0) with terribly disappointing play. They lacked energy, lacked heart and seemed to wander aimlessly around the field. Watching the game I had flashbacks of the 1992 film LADYBUGS as US team appeared more like 12 year olds licking at the grass and chasing butterflies.
